PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the maximum availability, reliability, and performance of manufacturing equipment and facility infrastructure supporting the production of defence electronic systems. The successful candidate will lead with strong expertise in: Preventive maintenance planning and execution Advanced fault-finding and troubleshooting Equipment calibration and reliability improvement The incumbent will be responsible for minimising equipment downtime, improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), ensuring compliance with stringent quality and safety standards, and supporting the organisation's manufacturing growth and industrialisation objectives
Job description

Preventitive and Corrective Maintenance
  • Develop, implement, and execute preventive maintenance schedules for machinery, equipment, and systems
  • Conduct routine inspections, servicing, and planned maintenance to minimise equipment failures and downtime
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, and control system failures
  • Perform corrective maintenance to restore equipment to operational condition with minimal delay
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with OEM specifications and maintenance best practices
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with production teams to minimise disruption to manufacturing operations
 
Equiment Riliability and Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Drive initiatives to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, and OEE
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, testing, and performance verification of new equipment and production lines
  • Recommend and implement equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce maintenance costs
  • Monitor equipment performance trends and recommend predictive maintenance interventions
 
Safety, Quality and Compliance
  • Ensure all maintenance and calibration activities comply with company policies, statutory regulations, safety requirements, and quality standards
  • Participate in safety inspections, risk assessments, audits, and compliance reviews
  • Maintain housekeeping standards within maintenance work areas
  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with ISO quality standards and applicable defence manufacturing requirements
  • Promote safe working practices and contribute to a zero-harm working environment
 
Technical Support and Collaboration
  • Provide technical support to production, engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on equipment modifications and manufacturing improvement initiatives
  • Train and coach machine operators on basic equipment care, autonomous maintenance, and early fault identification
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing operational efficiency and reducing production losses
  • Assist in developing maintenance procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation

Minimum requirements

Technical Skills:
  • Mechanical, electrical, and electronic fault-finding
  • PLC troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Equipment calibration and metrology
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Equipment reliability improvement
  • Reading engineering drawings and schematics
  • Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Kaizen, 5S)
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation

Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Or a related technical discipline

Recognised Trade Test qualification as one of the following (advantageous):

  • Millwright
  • Electrician
  • Instrumentation Technician
  • Or equivalent technical trade
 
Proven knowledge of preventive maintenance and equipment troubleshooting
Minimum 5 years' relevant hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environmen
Ability to read and interpret:
  • Mechanical drawings
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Electrical schematics
  • Maintenance manuals
